Adding Voice to UPK

UPK Topics can be enhanced with sound. Sound can be recorded by clicking the name of the file that you wish to record, clicking the Record/Edit Sound button, recording the sound, and then saving or by importing sound recorded by a professional. In 3.5.1 the supported file formats include .aif, .aiff, .au, .mp3, .snd, .wav or .wma for UPK 3.5.1.

The sound can also be played for the selected file to verify that the sound matches the associated text by selecting the name of the desired sound file then clicking the Play icon. You can stop the sound file playback by clicking the stop icon. Doing this sets the sound file back to its starting point; it does not pause the sound file at the point at which you stopped playback. The sound file can also be deleted by clicking on the file and selecting the Delete icon.

Hi Carissa,

We just started using UPK and are utlizinging sound. However, we would like sound only to be played in See it! mode. Do you know if it is possible to select which modes will play sound?

Thank you,
Nicole

Hello Nicole,

The UPK Developer does not have an option to select a specific mode for voice. What you do to accomplish this task is to determine which play mode is going to be used for attaching the voice. Multiple play modes cannot be used because only one voice file can be imported per screen.

For example, if the See It/Try It mode is determined to be the most appropriate mode for the organization, the voice needs to be recorded in that mode. This will facilitate the screens and the voice matching when the player is published and viewed in the See It/Try It mode.

Thank you for your question and please let me know if I can help you and your organization further.

Best regards,

Carissa

Me again! I begun recording sound today. I am using both custom and template text. Some bubbles only use custom text and I have turned off the template text. However, the sound recording for the template text is still being played when I view the playback modes. However, the sound properties box does not display the files unless I click "use templates" to turn templates back on.

I know if I delete the template file for that bubble, it will delete it from the library causing it to be deleted from the areas where I want the sound associated with template text to be included. Have you run into this before? Do you have any ideas on how to turn the sound relating to template text off when I am not using template text for that bubble? Thank you for your help!!
