Oracle Self-Services Human Resources - Solution to Rehire an Ex-Employee
  • Overview
Oracle Human Capital Management Suite (OHCM) provides Self service Human Resources (SSHR) a functionality which has:
    • Employee Self service: Employees can carry on certain actions like contact information update etc without having to go HR manager for each and every update.
    • Manager Self service: Managers can initiate actions like Job changes/Pay change etc for their employees without having to depend on HR manager to start these actions.

All of this Employee Self service (ESS) / Manager Self service (MSS) function can be configured to follow a workflow for approval/FYI flows etc. Oracle Human Capital Managements Manager Self service provide:

  • New Hire Function: Which allows managers to start hiring of new employees and this flow captures Assignment, Salary details etc.
  • Applicant Hire Functions: Which allows managers to hire applicants as employees. This functionality works irrespective of whether Applicant are maintained in OHCM using Oracle iRecruitment or any legacy interfacing program.
  • Business Requirement
However none of the functionality provided by SSHR allows for rehiring of employees i.e. hiring an ex-employee again. OHCM does provide rehire ability via Forms Interface, but for any organization of considerable employee strength, this would be a serious limitation as generally only HR managers will have access to Forms Interface.
  • Solution
KBACE Technologies, Private Limited analyzed this gap in SSHR functionality and came with a custom flow which provides for Rehiring capability from Manager Self service (MSS).

This custom solution allows HR to set rehire eligibility criteria based on leaving reason etc. A Manager can access this function and request for rehire of an ex-employee. Once rehire eligibility is established and once HR manager approves the proposal, Manager can go ahead and hire the ex-employee. This solution was achieved in Oracle Application Framework technology, application APIs and Oracle Approval Management Engine (AME) while preserving the seamless integration with SSHR functions.
